KINGSTON, ONT – The University of Regina will host the 2025 Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium and Laval University will host the marquee game in 2026 at TELUS Stadium, U SPORTS announced on Saturday.
This is the first time in history that Regina will host the U SPORTS football national championship, while Laval hosts for an eighth time, a comfortable venue for Canadian university football.
“We are confident fans from all over will want to converge on Regina for this milestone event,” U SPORTS Chief Sporting Officer, Lisette Johnson-Stapley said ahead of the 2023 Vanier Cup at Kingston’s Richardson Stadium.
“The city is known for its enthusiasm for football and deeply engaged fan base, which solidifies Regina’s status as a city where football plays a significant and beloved role in the community’s sports culture.”
Bringing the 60th edition of the Vanier Cup to Mosaic Stadium is a joint effort between the City of Regina, Tourism Saskatchewan and Tourism Regina, the league said in a media release. The stadium — which opened in July 2017 — hosted the 109th Grey Cup in 2022, and is the home stadium for the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.
In 2026, Laval will host the game in Quebec City for the eighth time since 2009 — more than any other city since Toronto stopped routinely hosting the Vanier Cup at Varsity Stadium and the Skydome after 2003.
Laval most recently hosted the game in 2021. U SPORTS said their decision to hold the championship in Quebec City again came down to the university’s “impressive history of hosting the championship.”
“The decision was straightforward, considering Laval’s proven excellence in organizing U SPORTS championships,” said Johnson-Stapley. “The Vanier Cup has consistently attracted large, passionate crowds at Université Laval, and we have no doubt Quebec City’s football fans will offer unwavering support, creating a vibrant atmosphere for all student-athletes and another outstanding event in 2026.”
U SPORTS said they believe the 2025 and 2026 Vanier Cups will continue to “mirror previous years’ economic and community benefits.” The league cited the success of the 2022 event at Western University, which generated $2.4 million in economic activity for London, Ont..
“We are excited to bring the nation’s premier university football event to Regina and Laval, where we anticipate exhilarating games with significant contributions to local economies and communities,” added Johnson-Stapley.
