Every week here are notable sporting performances in the Greater Toronto Area, and this week, an athlete was earned national recognition.
Mack Shields, the goaltender for the York University Lions earned this week’s honours. He was presented with two of the most potent offences in the OUA, and the Saskatoon native dominated in both of his performances. Over the weekend, he made a total of 75 saves, an astonishing number at any level of hockey.

His three-quarter century of saves earned a win against the Queens University Gaels, the 2019 OUA champions. In addition to the victory, he also showed very well in the Lion’s narrow 2-1 loss to the high flying Ryerson Rams,.
He also had a shutout performance against the Rams on the last day of the prior week. The Saskatonian is on a real roll and has led his Lion’s team to a successful start to the season.
So far he has posted a stellar save percentage of. 937, good for fifth in Canada.
