Six games took place in OUA women’s basketball this weekend. Here are some highlights of each game and a recap of the scores:
Ryerson Rams vs. U of T Varisty Blues: The Rams won their fourth game in a row against the Blues on Saturday. They had outstanding defense throughout the game who never gave the Blues a chance to lead. The final score was 84-53.
Western Mustangs vs. McMaster Marauders: The Mustangs had a difficult first half and ended the second quarter trailing the Marauders by 10. They were neck and neck for the duration of the second half until it took an unexpected turn in the final minutes of the game. With under a minute left a foul was called on the Marauder’s Arianne Soriano, giving the Mustangs two free throws. Maddy Horst made both buckets and earned the Mustangs a victory with the final score being 72-69.
Queen’s Gaels vs. Carleton Ravens: Although the Gaels had a dominant first half, the Ravens caught up in the second half and the game was tied 72-72. They were looking to finish what they started in overtime as the Gaels’ Emma Ritcey made the first bucket which happened to be a 3 point shot. The Ravens didn’t make a bucket until under 30 seconds left in overtime and came up short by 5 points. The final score was 80-75.
Windsor Lancers vs. Brock Badgers: After having the game delayed to Sunday morning due to the snowstorm, the Lancers did their best considering they had less practice time. They led throughout the first half but things turned around for the Badgers after halftime. They were able to take the lead in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter. The Lancers weren’t able to regain their lead and came up short to the Badgers 63-54.
Ontario Tech Ridgebacks vs. Ottawa Gee-Gees: Ontario Tech hasn’t won a game this season and took home their 14th loss on Saturday. By the end of the first quarter, the Gee-Gees outscored the Ridgebacks by triple the points. They only made one out of eleven attempts at a 3 point shot and didn’t come close to the Gee-Gees at any point in the game. The Ridgebacks were defeated 101-34.
Lakehead Thunderwolves vs. Guelph Gryphons: The Thunderwolves had a rough start to the game; they didn’t score a basket until well into the first quarter while the Gryphons already had 12 points. They kept their large lead throughout the game and brought home a victory of 79-65 over the Thunderwolves.
