This weekend, the Ryerson Rams women’s basketball team is playing two of the top teams in Canada; the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens. They have some stiff competition ahead of them but I wouldn’t count the Rams out just yet. They’re definitely the underdogs going into these games.
The Rams are having a great season so far as they currently sit in first place in the central division with 24 points. The Gee-Gees are in first in the east division with 26 points and the Ravens are right behind them with 24 points. The Rams do have a good chance of giving Ottawa a run for their money. They have the highest percentage of 3 point shots in the league at 32.2% and an average of 8.4 shots made per game. Ottawa only averages 6.4 shots per game and has a 3 point shot percentage of 29.1%.
The Gee-Gees have been averaging 80.7 points per game and the Rams will need a strong defence in order to stop them from making buckets. The Rams need to put pressure on the Gee-Gees so the shot clock runs out and they won’t have enough time to execute a proper play. They’ll also have to work on getting rebounds and keeping the ball on Ottawa’s side of the court.

They have the upper-hand over Carleton in terms of in terms of 3 point shots as well since the Ravens make more attempts than buckets. The team can use that to their advantage during both games and aim for making buckets while their opponents miss out on an opportunity to score.
The Rams will have to play smart against the Ravens as they’re tied for first for most blocks per game with 4.1. The team has to work together to find a way to get the ball around the Ravens’ defence without turning it over. They’ll have to be unpredictable if they want outscore them.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Rams can pull off a victory against these tough teams and keep their eight game winning streak alive. You can catch their games against the Gee-Gees Friday at 6:00pm and against the Ravens Saturday at 6:00pm on OUA.TV.
