U Sports MHKY: Kyle Bollers, The OJHL’s Leading Scorer Joins the Ryerson Rams

Toronto, ON- The Ryerson Rams men’s hockey team announced that Oshawa native Kyle Bollers will be joining them for the 2020-2021 season.  Bollers spent the last four years playing in the OHL and OJHL. At 17, he entered the OHL where he played for the Saginaw Spirit, in two seasons spent there, he scored  21 points. Ahead of the 2018-19 season, Bollers returned to his hometown after the Oshawa Generals acquired him in exchange for a 2023 OHL Priority Draft pick. While playing for the Generals, Bollers scored a goal and eight assists in the regular season.  In the playoffs, he scored 6 points through 15 games. 

After finishing off his career in the OHL, Bollers captained the Brantford 99ers in the OJHL.  After a late start to the season due to a hand injury, he finished tied to for the league’s leading scorer with 39 goals and 86 points in 52 games. After an 8-2 win against Mississauga, Bollers pulled ahead in the league scoring with 40 goals and was set to become the OJHL’s sole Most Goals recipient until Kyle Bollers pointed out an error.  The officials falsely gave Bollers credit for the eighth goal. When Bollers noticed this mistake he told 99ers staff and ensured that his teammate, Nick Abbott, received the recognition for the goal. With his play, as well as this moment, Bollers showed exceptional scoring prowess and character in his final OJHL season. He was named a first-team all-star and the Fan Favourite award at the end of the season.

In Bollers’ commitment to Ryerson, he described himself as  “a hardworking and determined athlete that sets high goals and standards for myself (and) a leader and team player”.  While discussing his decision to join Ryerson, Bollers said “Ryerson has the best hockey program that will continue to develop my hockey career to help me achieve my goal to play pro one day. In addition, the academic program and academic support will help me be successful in my future.”  In regards to Bollers’ academics, it is still unclear whether Bollers will choose the RTA: Sports Media or Business Management program. Either way, it is clear that Bollers is an experienced player with formidable scoring ability who’s talent will be welcomed to the Rams forward lineup.
