BREAKING: AUS announces plan for full return in 2021-22

HALIFAX, NS- Like U SPORTS’ three other conferences, the AUS intends to return to a full schedule in September, the conference announced Wednesday.

The plan for a September restart will be dependant on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, but the AUS board of directors and executive director Phil Currie feel it would be safe for a return of sports by then.

“[The return] will obviously be contingent upon the most up-to-date public health directives, but we are optimistic that things will continue to go in the right direction,” Currie said in the AUS press release announcing the news.

This news follows announcements from the RSEQ, Canada West and the OUA declaring intentions for similar, full returns to play in the fall. Last week, the latter’s board of directors revealed it had approved return-to-play plans for league-based sport for 2021-22.

League schedules will be released next week, along with AUS championship dates and hosts for both fall and winter sports.

The AUS board of directors received unanimous support from the board of directors, the presidents of the 11 AUS universities.

More to come.
