UQTR men’s hockey player accused of misconduct, temporarily suspended

Player suspended pending investigation into allegedly operating an Instagram account used to grade women and reveal their personal information according to a report from TVA Nouvelles

An undisclosed member of the UQTR Patriotes men’s hockey team has been placed on administrative suspension pending an investigation from the athletic department after it emerged they allegedly hosted an Instagram account on which they publicly graded women, some of whom they had intimate relationships with.

TVA Nouvelles first reported on Monday night that an anonymous person alerted several young women that their names and photos had been posted on an Instagram account allegedly operated by a member of the UQTR Patriotes hockey team.

The posts also allegedly contained personal information about the women including their nationality and date of birth. The postings on the now-deleted Instagram account are all alleged to have taken place between Aug. 22, 2022 and Oct. 30, 2022

Upon learning of the allegations the UQTR Patriotes athletics department took immediate action by placing the athlete on administrative suspension pending an investigation.

(Translated from French) “Immediately Friday, the same day that this information arrived, the message was transmitted to management who took action to ensure that we could carry out an investigation”, UQTR spokeperson Jean-François Hinse told TVA Nouvelles.

The defending OUA and U SPORTS National Champions, the UQTR Patriotes currently sit at 7-1-0 and lead the OUA East Division. The Patriotes next play on Friday, Nov. 11, when they host the Concordia Stingers for the first of two back-to-back meetings on the 11th and 12th.
