Toronto, ON- With their backs against the wall Kai Edmonds delivered in an elimination game, recording a shutout as the Bold took down the Varsity Blues 1-0 on Saturday night.
In elimination games the first goal is always the most important one. The Bold had multiple opportunities to do so on the power play but the penalty kill of the Varsity Blues stole the show going three for three.
Kevin Gursoy, who was relied upon heavily during last year’s postseason run, got the scoring started for the Bold as he capitalized on a scramble in front of the net.
Throughout the season, the Bold struggled in close games, oftentimes allowing the other team to steal the victory. That was not the case during Saturday’s game, as the Bold won 1-0.
When TMU Head Coach, Johnny Duco spoke after game one, he talked about losing the special teams battle. It once again didn’t go his way in game two as the power play went 0-3 and is now 0-5 in the whole series.
“We will watch some video. See where we can make some adjustments. It’s an area where we know we can be better,” said Duco post game talking about the power play.
The second period showcased strong goaltending which was the theme of game two. Both Alexander and Edmonds showed that they are both the real deal by coming up with some beautiful glove saves and fighting through traffic both teams sent their way.
“We got our backs against the wall,” said Edmonds. “Just making every save I can to keep the guys in it so that’s all I can do and save everything I can”
The Bold return home to host a winner-take-all game three tomorrow at Maple Leaf Gardens. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
