TMU Bold men’s soccer team suspended amid allegations

TORONTO, ON – The TMU Bold men’s soccer team will not compete in U SPORTS for the foreseeable future.

On Monday, the school announced that it had suspended the TMU men’s soccer program after receiving reports regarding “concerning behaviour” around the 2022 OUA finalists.

“A report has been received by the university alleging serious and concerning behaviour. The university is investigating fully, and the activities of the men’s soccer team have been suspended until further notice,” a university spokesperson said.

The team forfeited their first two games of the OUA season, receiving automatic 3-0 losses against the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipissing Lakers. 49 Sports can confirm that the Voyageurs and Lakers were not told of the reasons for the forfeit.

According to sources that have spoken with 49 Sports, and requested anonymity, a hazing incident towards some of the team’s rookie players occurred during the preseason.

However, the school says it cannot confirm the hazing allegations, as 49 Sports and TMU’s campus newspaper, The Eyeopener, reported.

“The university cannot confirm any other details, including the nature of the allegations at this time as an investigation is underway.”

More to come.
