MHKY: UQTR takes down Brock, wins 2022 Queen’s Cup

St Catherines, ON – Once again, the UQTR Patriotes are back on top of OUA hockey.

The Patriotes travelled to the Seymour-Hannah Centre to take on the Brock Badgers in the 110th Queen’s Cup. After a tough back and forth game, the Patriotes came away with the 3-1 win and the 11th Queen’s Cup in program history.

The night started with a very physical battle, as Justin Brack alone dropped at least two Patriotes in the first five minutes. Three and a half minutes in, though, Félix Boivin buried it past Mario Peccia to give the Patriotes the 1-0 lead. It was late in the period that saw Simon Lafrance burying it from a weird angle to provide the Patriotes with a 2-0 lead that held until the intermission.

The second period was marked by a very slow performance from the Badgers, and it was Simon Lafrance who managed to bury a one-timer to give UQTR a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.

Brock started the third with more energy, potentially frustrated with a non-call on a high hit against Jacob Roach. Cole Thiesson got one back midway in the third, but that was all they would get as the Patriotes skated away with the 3-1 win.

UQTR takes the Queen’s Cup and moves on to the 2022 U SPORTS MHKY National Championship.
